Icelandic synthpop trio Samaris have been getting a lot of attention in recent months thanks to their brilliant album Black Lights. That could be, in part, because the group is singing in English for the first time. But I’d like to think that it’s based solely on the strength of their songwriting, which equally inspired by late ’90s dance music and ’70s/’80s ambient experiments.
The group is working to expand their reach even more with videos like this one. It’s another throwback affair that looks like it was filmed using an older camcorder and edited with the spirit of public access cable in mind. Even if those references don’t connect with you, there’s still a lot of fun to be had watching these kids dance and lip sync and scrabble over the rough landscape of their home country.
