Future R&B has been one of the most reliable genres around these days where the best musical innovation is happening. And all towards the goal of getting people on their feet and moving. That’s why when someone like Naomi Pilgrim comes along, we sit up and listen closely. The former Lykke Li backup singer was inspired to write a suite of songs on her new EP based on a trip she took to her native Barbados, and upon hearing the news of the many needless deaths of African-Americans over the past few years. She finds something beautiful and inspiring out of the chaos and despair. Not an easy task.
