Novocaine, featuring vocals from American Max Frost, is the latest single from Norwegian band Lovespeake. It was born in Hamburg, raised in Reykjavik, and graduated (with Honors) in Oslo today. The song is a delight of retro-driven, sunny psych-pop, enhanced by Frost’s falsetto in the chorus and embellished with funky bass lines that commandeer bodies to move to the beat.
We last heard music from the band in the form of their debut album “DNA” in 2016, which swept the U.S. college radio charts and Nordic Spotlight off our sedentary butts and onto the dance floor at first listen. Lovespeake was briefly scheduled to play at SXSW 2017, but instead, we were blessed with the appearance of BAYA, aka Andrew Murray (a member of the six-piece Lovespeake) at the Sounds From Norway showcase instead.
It’s our sincere wish that Lovespeake hurries up and releases more music soon. We’re digging their latest offspring and want it to have many siblings, maybe enough to make an LP? It should be called “Baby-Making”. This Auntie will buy 100.
