The Foreign Resort share their background and their thoughts on playing at SXSW 2012.
Short bio: Based in the shoegaze genre The Foreign Resort has fused the dark sounds of the 80’s with electronic beats, energetic drumming and piercing reverb guitars.
The Foreign Resort released their debut album Offshore in 2009 and has since toured the USA, Italy, Germany and Denmark. 2010-11 counts more than 85 shows, the most notable were at the Danish showcase festival Spot 2010, supporting A Place to Bury Strangers on their European tour, playing 6 shows during SXSW 2011 in Austin, Texas and an official CMJ 2011 showcase in New York. The band has been confirmed for an official showcase at SXSW 2012 as well as supporting The Raveonettes on their Denmark tour in December 2011.
Is this your first time at SXSW?
No, but this is our first official showcase.
How has your past experience(s) been at SXSW?
We had a blast experiencing the madness for the first time in 2011 when we played 6 unofficial shows. We played a lunch set for dining families, the porch at Annie’s West at the Popantipop showcase and the KVRXplosion between Moby and The Jezabels. All great experiences in each their way.
What have you enjoyed most about being in America?
Burgers! You simply can’t get burgers the American way in Europe. That’s why we keep coming back!
No seriously. In short – the music and the people. American music is awesome! We have played with numerous amazing bands while touring in the States. There is never just a good venue and a good audience. There is always a great band! And talking about audience and venues..the people we meet are always friendly and treat us more than well. New York, Seattle or San Francisco, we never get the feeling of being far away from home.
What are you looking forward to again while in Austin?
Burgers! And the Texas steaks with mashed potatoes!
Well, we are looking forward to do it all again. But the big thing this time will be our official showcase hosted by our label at Frank. The guys at Monolathe Recordings are hard working people and I know that that particular show will be really good – both for us but but also for all the other bands playing the Monolathe showcase.
Are there any bands you look forward to seeing?
Gotta check the program. But our friends Vibragun and Stereo is a Lie will definitely be some of the highlights. Last year we were so busy that we didn’t really get to see much. The dilemma is – we would like to be just as busy this year. The good thing is that we have our manager with us this time. We will not have do a lot of the work we had to do ourselves last year.
