Sideways Festival, taking place in Helsinki on June 17th and 18th, is one of the more humble festivals around, taking up only that Friday and Saturday. But it also boasts an amazing lineup every year, with the 2016 installment bringing in musical genius PJ Harvey, hip-hop icons EPMD, and the raging garage rock of Ty Segall & The Muggers.
For us, the best thing about Sideways is that it provides the best look into the world of Finnish music around. The schedule this year is stacked with artists both big and small from their already thick pool of homegrown talent. And it’s diverse as all get out, too with metal acts Ranger and Oranssi Pazuzu sitting alongside hip-hop artists Yona and SMC Lähiörotat who reside next to the folkier sounds of Janne Westerlund and glam popsters Echo Is Your Love. If you wanted to have your finger on the pulse of Finland’s music scene, look no further.
It may seem like short notice to plan a trip to this festival now, but there’s no time like the present to take your first jaunt to this beautiful and welcoming country. So, if you want to make the jump, let us take some of the guesswork out of the process for you.
