Each year approximately a thousand bands invade New York City for the opportunity of getting their shot at stardom. For five days the CMJ Marathon engulfs the
lives of thousands of musicians, industry personnel, and fans. Sleep is secondary, and sticking to a schedule is an exercise in futility.
For fans and badge-holders, balancing your time between industry panels, showcases, catching a glimpse at your favorite buzz-band...all while navigating
the streets of NY with GPS in hand is the ultimate Scavenger Hunt game. For bands, acquiring the art of fast load-ins and outs becomes a necessity. Showcasing, interviews, meetings, and networking, all while mingling with fans is a wearing, yet exhilarating experience.
When we weren't enjoying free beer and whisky at the Fader Fort parties, or burgers at the Aussie BBQ party we travelled from borough to borough trying to catch up with as many Nordic bands we could find. From upstairs lounges, to back-room bars, to some of the hottest NYC venues...and to a kids party - we caught up with 9 bands from various regions and genres.
